Technical Application Engineer

For an international publisher near Dordrecht we are looking for a Technical Application Engineer. This global organization consists of 5.000 employees all over the world. They are one of the biggest publishers in the Science-, Technology- and Medicine sector: As a Technical Application Engineer you will be responsible for ensuring that core applications are kept in good operating order through the provision of superior application management and support. You will work in a team with 6 other Application Engineers, 3 in Holland and 3 across Europe.

As a Technical Application Engineer you will be responsible for ensuring that applications within the organization are kept in good operating order through the provision of superior application management and support.

Some of your activities and responsibilities include:
-Installing, testing and upgrading applications used within the organization.
-Maintaining and managing applications to ensure quality and continuity from an operational perspective.
-Proactive monitoring of applications to optimize this continuity;
-Assisting and cooperating with business owner of applications to ensure proper release and patch management.
-Ensuring integrity, completeness and authorized use of applications.
-Ensuring an adequate level of communication with functional management and system development to guarantee proper tuning of related activities.
-Developing, maintaining and enforcing application related documentation.
-Participating in the assessment of user problems and desired application adjustments.

As a Technical Application Engineer you'll meet the following requirements:

-A technical degree at academic or higher vocational level (HBO+)
-At least 3 years of relevant work experience in a similar position.
-Knowledge of shell scripting, Apache, Tomcat, JBoss and/or Java basics;
-Affinity with software development;
-Preferably knowledge of EMC Documentum applications;
-Experience with performance tuning and troubleshooting;
-Experience with configuration of exports to and imports from internal and external applications;
-Experience with creating and managing monitoring for internal applications;
-Oracle expertise is an advantage.
-A good command of both Dutch and English;
-Willingness to travel(internationally).
